Under a Log

Age Group: 4 and 5 year olds (PreK and K) 

Cost: $20

Start date: February 17th

Fridays: 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Lets dig deep and get dirty to explore the wonders of life underneath a log!  What critter friends can we find?  Are there plants there too?  What other fun and funky creatures live there?  We will explore logs and rocks to answer these questions.

Week 1:   Fantastic Fungus

Week 2:  Millipedes and Centipedes

Week 3:  Slugs and Snails

Week 4:  Salamanders and Worms


Lil Trekkers

Age Group: 18 mos-3 years 

Cost: $20

Start date: February 17th for 4 weeks on Fridays 10:45-11:45 

Come with your little one and introduce them to the emergence of spring.  Every week we will visit a different trail or park in Broadlands and share songs, stories and nature.  In inclement weather, we will visit the Nature Center and enjoy crafts, stories, songs and visiting the animals. 


Wilderness Skills

Age Group: Grades 1-4 

Cost: $20

Start date: February 15th on Wednesdays 3-4pm 

Learn how to find shelter, build a fire, find water and how to survive if you are lost in the woods!  We will learn skills hands on and through game play.

Week 1:  How to survive introduction

Week 2:  Water!  Need Water!

Week 3:  Making shelters

Week 4:  Fire safety and what to do if it is wet.

For students from Mill run, pick up is available at 2:35pm by the Naturalist by prior arrangement (Bring a snack). Program will run 3-4pm.


The Audubon Naturalist Society and the Broadlands HOA have partnered to provide nature programs for the community.

To register, call the HOA office at 703-729-9704 or email naturalist@broadlandshoa.com to reserve your place in the program. We are outside for most programs, so please dress appropriately and wear sturdy shoes.
